How Hide TV Cables Audiophiles are always looking for new ways to get the most out of their audio equipment. Over the years people have found creative ways for enhancing sound quality beyond just buying more expensive speakers. There are two techniques in particular that we will talk about here: While neither of these techniques are strictly necessary, they can potentially give you better sound.
the first pic shows the amp & the infinity sub. the second pic shows how the amp fit’s neatly in the “storage cubby-hole” in the cargo area. the modified-system sounds waaaaaaaaaaay better than the stock amp and speakers. you may be right about the Kicker amp, but my ears tell me the MTX is working quite well.
How to Add an Amplifier to a Factory Stereo by Joseph Eitel It’s possible to add an amp to your car’s factory audio system without having to buy an expensive new head unit CD player. Adding an amp will make your audio system sound louder and clearer by allowing you to send more power to your factory speakers or sub-woofers. This tutorial will focus on how to add an amp by using speaker-level inputs to tap into your car’s existing wiring.
The installation is quick and easy and won’t require removing your factory head unit. If you don’t already have one, purchase a car amplifier with speaker-level inputs and also purchase an amp installation kit. These inputs look like regular speaker wire inputs and they will be labeled “speaker-level inputs” or something very similar. Disconnect your car battery’s negative terminal for safety purposes.
Run the red power wire from your amp installation kit from the positive terminal on your battery through your car’s cabin to the location of the amp. The best location for the amp is usually the trunk. Every amp has pre-drilled mounting screw holes located on each of the four corners of the amp for easier mounting.

Mar 01, · You will need a pre amp signal interface to attach your amp to your speakers so they run properly as the factory system is a CAN bus type. Try one from PAC Audio. You will loose the ability to adjust tone only on the speakers powered by the aftermarket amp.
Subwoofer Setup Part I: Placement and positioning While a subwoofer’s deep bass is nondirectional, it would be unwise to just stick the sub anywhere that’s convenient in your room. Corner placement is the de facto strategy for most people, possibly because the sub will then be out of the way and almost always produces the most bass, but corner placement may not yield the most accurate bass, or smoothest transition to the speakers.
The sub and speakers have to work together as a team, and ideally you should never hear the sub as a separate sound source. All of the bass should appear to come from the speakers. With small speakers, it’s best to keep the sub within 3 or 4 feet of the front left or right speakers. Once the sub is a lot farther away, it will be harder to maintain the illusion the bass is coming from the speakers. For really small speakers or skinny sound bars, keep the sub as close as possible to the speaker s.

A wide range of input levels make this amp easy to hook up with a factory radio or aftermarket. Use the full range RCA outputs to run another CX amplifier off of the same signal. This CX amplifier delivers as much as 75 watts per channel (4 channels driven), or watts into two sets of bridged channels.
Unsubscribe The car amplifier doesn’t provide a signal to the sub I have the most perplexing of issues at hand, and I don’t know where else to turn to but here. My sister’s car — namely, the car’s sub amplifier — is giving me all sorts of sass. I’m trying to diagnose it from a world away she’s in Tennessee, I’m in California and it just does not want to work properly. A bit of background: It powered on briefly the yellow LED on the amp itself turned on, but not the green LED on the subwoofer level controller , but turned off as soon as she hooked up to sub And then it never powered back on again.
So after some brief multi-metering, we chalk it up to a bad amp and she orders this Boss amp from Amazon. Yesterday the amp arrived, and we’re back to square one. These are her installation pictures: Please refer to them, as I will be using the specific names found on the amp. This is what I know, according to sister: Remote and Ground have some negligible voltage across them when measured with a multimeter and the radio is on — but that voltage goes away when the radio is turned off.
So I’m assuming that the amp gets a signal from the radio to turn on. Speaker Connections have 0 voltage across them.
Silver Steel The only thing the head unit lets you do is adjust the bass, midrange and treble overall. It lets you use the fader and the balance and that is it. As to adjusting the sub so you get the low lows sounding good to your preference, sorry. The bass controls all of the speakers.

This sub fits precisely in the back of my trunk without compromising space. I matched this with a rockford fosgate watt amp bench tested at amps! At start up, this thing shook the car and rattled my trunk. Had to dial in crossover, bass setting and add dynomats to the panels. Once done, this integrated superbly with the stock stereo system.

How do you hook up a 1 farad capacitor to your amp? Answer 1 You first have to determine which side of the cap is positive andwhich side is negative. You run a wire from the negative side tothe chassis and for the positive side you run a cable from thebattery to the terminal and from the terminal to the amp. Be careful not to mix up positive and negative on the capbecause it could explode and cause damage.
How much would Best Buy charge for a Subwoofer and amp installation plus the wires? I have a Dodge Intrepid, dont have the wires, have a 2 12″ Kicker subs, and a bridged Rockford Fosgate.
I will explain but at least I did learn two things in this and passed both onto kicker tech support. I went to best buy and around back to car audio geek squad. The guy immediately took the sub inside and hooked it to their display unit wiring and it worked!!! I was like oh no now what!!! He helped me for about mins free of charge using a rigged up tester and determined that the sub and harness were fine, so it had to be prior to those wires. He wouldn’t do anything else without me paying but he said try the speaker wires again as the RCAs probably don’t throw out enough of a signal to work on that unit.
I said ok even though I already tried. He said make sure connections are really good and noticed I ha the gain to to lowest point an he said at that level it’s practically off, so I wouldn’t have heard anything anyway. I pulled around front of store wasnt leaving until I knew for sure and got to work. So I left happy and went home to try something. I thought maybe the rcas were working all along I just had gain way too low.

I’ve had friends run Kove 12″s, 4 doors and 2 tweeters off a 5 channel amp before. I doubt it got the sub to it’s RMS rating, but it sounded pretty good and got the job done, I just wouldn’t recommend it like that. I want to amp my tweeters and 6X9’s and my sub, different amps for the subs and speakers I don’t understand how you do it because the speakers have to be hooked up to the head unit right??
The power lead connects from the amp positive terminal to your battery – you will have to route the leads under your carpet. The earth goes from your amp to a suitable earth i.

Scosche Plug and Play adaptors Aftermarket head unit to factory harness connector. Direct plug-in to factory wiring harness on one end, bare wires on the other to hook up to aftermarket deck wiring. You will also need an antenna adaptor to convert from the new and unique style to the standard plug-in on the aftermarket unit. Replacing the original wire harness that plugs into the factory radio. This harness plugs directly in to the back of factory head units and has bare wires on the other end to splice into the vehicle radio harness wiring.
This would be useful in cases where the factory wiring near the radio has been damaged or the connector has been cut off. For systems with a factory or aftermarket CD changer:

How to Install a Car Amp Installing car audio amplifiers is one of the trickiest things a newbie car audio installer can attempt. Car amp installation requires that all sorts of panels be removed and that various wires be run all over the car. Installing car audio amplifiers is a step by step process which I have outlined here.
Nov 15, · The Kicker version has a wiring harness which must be ran to the battery, tap the head unit and a watt amp. Stillwater makes both products and they don’t really publish much on amp or sub specs. Thanks for the clarification.
One thing I learned pretty early in life is that speakers are not meant to be wired together in a haphazard manner. In fact, whenever you plan to connect more than two speakers to a two-channel amplifier — or more than four speakers to a four-channel amp — there are a few things to consider, not the least of which is the amps ability to handle low-impedance loads.
Ignoring the basics is like playing Russian roulette with your amplifier: If youre lucky, itll drive the speakers without incident; if youre not, the amp will fry. The great thing about a multiple-speaker hookup is that once you master only two basic wiring procedures — “series” and “parallel” — the world is yours to conquer. When you know how many speakers youre going to use and the impedance driving capability of your amplifier, youll be able to select a wiring scheme that will deliver the best sonic and electrical results.
In some cases, it may not be one procedure or the other but a combination of the two that works best. Speakers in Series The essence of series wiring is really quite simple: When speakers are connected in this fashion, load impedance increases — the more speakers, the higher the impedance. The most common reason for wanting to raise impedance is to lower acoustical output, as in the case of rear-fill or center-channel speakers. Speaker output declines because the amplifiers power output decreases as the load impedance increases.
While you can connect any number of speakers in series, try to keep the total equivalent-load impedance for each channel below 16 ohms, since most amps are not designed to handle higher loads. Figure 1A demonstrates how to wire a pair of speakers in series.

There are many reasons this can happen and there are many fuses that can be blowing out. Some of these problems are outside of the amplifier and are relatively easy to hunt down. Others are inside the amplifier and cannot be seen while the amplifier is installed. However these internal problems usually show external symptoms and a knowledgeable installer or technician can make a good guess on what is wrong based on these symptoms.
For this article I’ve asked Perry Babin to explain what these common problems are for all of the fuses in a car audio amplifier installation. Perry is the webmaster of Basic Car Audio and Electronics and a professional amplifier repair technician with over twenty years experience. He’s also created a huge tutorial on repairing car audio amplifiers and I’ve included a banner link at the end of his article that will take you directly there.
